Dr. Belinda Biscoe to keynote 2017 Holiday Program and Celebration

OKLAHOMA CITY – Acclaimed civil rights activist and professor Dr. Belinda Biscoe will keynote the 2017 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Program at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral located at N.W. 7th Street and Robinson in Downtown Oklahoma City.  The 2017 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Program will begin at 12:15 p.m. on Monday, January 16, 2017 and is part of the 37th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Celebration of Events.

Dr. Belinda Biscoe is Vice President for University Outreach.  Dr. Biscoe is the first African American female VP at OU. Also within University Outreach, she serves as director of the South Central Comprehensive Center (SC3), principal investigator for the Central Comprehensive Center (C3), and director of Educational Training, Evaluation, Assessment and Measurement (E-TEAM).

>Dr. Biscoe’sareas of expertise include: research and evaluation, higher education administration, nonprofit administration, public school administration, school reform, early literacy, public school issues, substance abuse prevention, mental health, resilience, homelessness, workforce development, juvenile justice, lifespan developmental psychology (with an emphasis on early childhood and adolescence), and substance abuse treatment, including client management, women and family issues, polydrug abusers, co-occurring disorders, and self-help organizations. Dr. Biscoe is also a co-founder of the Eagle Ridge Institute, a nonprofit substance abuse organization in Oklahoma City.

During her career, she has written and received funding for more than 47 major grants, resulting in the application of millions of dollars to support initiatives for common education, non-profit organizations, and higher education. She is an accomplished public speaker, having presented papers at local, state, and national conferences.

Dr. Biscoe is certified as an Oklahoma Certified Alcohol and Drug Director/Program Administrator (OCADDPA) and Internationally Certified Prevention Specialist (ICPS).

2017 marks the 37th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Celebration in Oklahoma City. The 2017 Celebration Theme:  A Time for Change is Now.  The MLK Holiday Celebrations bring together people from all generations, communities and cultures to celebrate the life and works of Dr. King.
