2017 MLK Jr. Holiday Events Information and Registration

January 16, 2017, is the date for the 2017 King Holiday Parade. Thanks to you and the thousands of patrons who lined the streets to watch, the 2016 King Holiday Parade was a success.

We are most appreciative of your participation in past parades. This letter is our special invitation to you to be an important part of our 2017 parade. Your participation is greatly needed in order to equal and/or surpass last year’s event.

Below is a link to the 2017 MLK King Holiday Parade Registration Form. All participants must register and be approved to participate in the parade.

Please pay close attention to these guidelines:

Registration Fees – a completed registration form must be submitted by the deadline for all participants.

Each entry must display the 2017 Theme: A Time for Change Is Now.

$45.00 Non-vendor Individual/Group Participants.
$45.00 Car Clubs -5 Vehicle Limit $45.00 Motor Cycle Club 10 Bike Limit
No Charge – Middle School and High School Bands and ROTC

Each parade entry must provide at least one volunteer Parade Marshal.
All decorated floats must have a fire extinguisher on board.

Deadline for receipt of registration forms:
Mail-in by January 2, 2017 by 5pm for the $ 45.00 entry fee.
January 3 –5, 2017 late fee charge of $55.
No applications will be accepted after January 6, 2017.

The traditional 9AM Silent March, representing the true spirit of the modern Civil Rights Movement, begins at the Freedom Center at NE 23rd and Martin Luther King Avenue and travels West on 23rd to the south steps of the State Capitol Building. We will host the annual Bell Ringing Ceremony on the Oklahoma Historical Society steps, and Annual King Holiday Program at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral, located at 127 N.W. 7th. The Job Fair will be held at Douglas High School, located at 900 N. MLK Jr. Blvd. We have not yet selected a guest speaker for this year’s event.

We invite your attendance and input at our planning meetings each Tuesday at 5:30pm at the Lennie P. Tolliver Center, located at 2001 N. Martin Luther King. We are also looking for adult volunteers to help with this year’s parade. Please call William Jones at (405) 306-8440 if you have any questions or would like to help volunteer.
